Americans’ lives are far busier today than they have ever been, but prevention and efficiency are still important. When your health is in question, it has never been more crucial to prioritize it… but not everyone has time to sit in a hospital or doctor’s office for hours on end. Luckily, MH Imaging offers medical testing in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee that is fast enough to take care of over your lunch break. With same-day scheduling and imaging capabilities that allow for result readings on-site, this is the perfect place to go for quality, speed and affordable wellness screenings.
Types of Imaging Scans and Their Duration
We offer a variety of diagnostic imaging tests including CT, MRI and ultrasound scans. These scans will vary in time depending on the area of the body being scanned and whether you need a contrast dye.
How long does a CT (or CAT) scan take?
CT scans help with diagnosing serious injuries and can pinpoint the size and location of tumors. With the radiation involved in these scans, we try to perform them only with good reason. CT machines take several x-ray images that combine into a detailed cross-sectional image for us to examine. Since these scans use radiation rather than contrast dye, they only take about 5 – 15 minutes to perform. However, you will usually need to refrain from eating or drinking for a few hours before the test.
How long is an MRI scan?
MRI scans show the differences between normal and abnormal tissues. They use powerful magnet fields and radio wave pulses to create cross-sectional images of the body.
These may require a contrast dye that is given during the scan, so expect it to take about 45 minutes, on average, from start to finish. Pacemakers or other metal/electronic devices may cause interference with the scan and can result in injury to patients due to the strong magnetic pull of the machine. Make sure to discuss any concerns with your doctor before scheduling an appointment to ensure a safe visit.
How long does an Ultrasound take?
Ultrasounds are perfect for expecting mothers since they do not use radiation. They are also beneficial for taking images of organs or blood vessels in your arm, legs and neck. These machines use high-frequency sound waves to produce echoes that are then transformed into images. You can expect an ultrasound to take about 45 minutes and you may need to be prepped.
Can you Do Multiple Scans in the Same Day?
Yes, you can often schedule multiple imaging scans on the same day at MH Imaging. This is especially helpful for patients who need comprehensive diagnostics but have limited time for multiple appointments.
Here’s how it typically works:
- Efficiency: Our scheduling team can coordinate your CT, MRI, or ultrasound appointments back-to-back to reduce waiting time.
- Safety: It’s perfectly safe to do more than one scan in a single visit, though we may advise spacing them out slightly if a contrast dye is used.
- Convenience: Having multiple tests on the same day means faster care from your provider.
- Insurance and Coverage: Our team can assist in confirming coverage and pre-authorization so your experience remains seamless and stress-free.
For optimal safety, always discuss your full exam plan with your doctor or our imaging staff before scheduling multiple scans.
