Benefits of a Check Up

Prevention is Key: Benefits of a check up

We’ve heard them before: Happiness is good health… An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure… Health is wealth… But do we actually practice good health?

It’s common for people to only go to the doctor when they’re feeling sick because everyone is caught up in their busy lives of going to work or school and maintaining relationships with family and friends, but preserving good health is equally important to increasing quality of life. The best way to do it is through preventative measures like regular checkups.

A checkup is a series of tests done to assess your overall health, identify your risk factors for disease and determine if there are any hidden diseases in your body. Checkups can be early detectors that identify diseases or other health problems in their primary stages (or before they even start), which can result in better managed treatment and increased chances of maintaining a healthier and extended life in the long run. Some of the most common checkups include dental, eye, cholesterol, breast cancer, testes, pap, STD, blood pressure, BMI, anemia, thyroid, hearing and bone mineral tests.

If an issue arises with your health you can do further comprehensive tests such as MRIs, CAT scans and more to better understand what the problem is and use the best methods of treatment to solve the issue. But it all depends on what the medical condition is, of course.

In between regular checkups, it’s important to keep your body healthy. There are plenty of lifestyle tips to help maintain good health and some of them include eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking plenty of water, getting a proper amount of sleep and staying away from smoking.

Prevention and preservation are cheaper and easier than cure, so it’s important to visit your doctor for regular checkups to identify what is normal or expected early on so you can detect any serious or abnormal changes in the future.
